Elizabeth Avenue - The Elizabeth Avenue Partnership (EAP) invites you to come out and experience military and civilian life during the American Revolution at an encampment and re-enactment taking place at Historic Union Square Plaza on Elizabeth Avenue, Saturday, June 8th from 12-3 pm. The event is free of charge and will commemorate the anniversary of a crucial Revolutionary War battle that occurred at this site on June 7th, 1780, 244 years ago.

The event will feature vendors and re-enactors portraying life in the 18th century including, military drills and a cannon firing, 18th Century ingredients and utensils, an 18th Century Doctor, spinning and weaving demonstrations, a historic artist, children's activities and more. Colonial costumed women will provide information about the US constitution and Revolutionary War history of the Elizabeth, NJ area, presented by the Westfield Chapter of the Daughters of the Revolution (DAR).

The event will take place at Union Square Plaza, located on Elizabeth Avenue between First Avenue and High Street, which was the sight of a key battle. On Elizabeth Avenue (formerly Water Street), approximately 15 brave Minutemen Soldiers, mightily outnumbered by the British militia marching up, severely wounded the British Brigadier General Thomas Stirling, causing confusion and a loss of time for the British. The local Militia managed to hold off the British advance long enough for George Washington's Continental Army to arrive and push them back to Staten Island. Witness the site this battle took place with the military drills, encampment, and more on Saturday June 8th!
